WebSurvey/400 Brings College
Professor's Intranet to Life
How do you keep a group of geographically separated
individuals in touch?
For an increasing number of organizations, the answer
to this question is an Intranet a Web site directed
to individuals within an organization. Content
for Intranets is often generated by individuals with
information to disseminate, but little or no Web design
or programming experience.
John Myers, Adjunct Professor of Business Administration
at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey,
faced the same problem that many companies confront
today. He had information that needed to be provided
on a timely basis to an audience with significant business
travel requirements. With no office on campus and with
many students lacking E-mail accounts, keeping in touch
was a challenge.
In 1998, Mr. Myers launched a Web-based intranet, consisting
of simple static Web pages from which students could
retrieve lecture outlines and other materials. However,
this was still only a one-way information transfer.
Students without E-mail accounts were still incommunicado.
In January 1999, he added three ways in which students
could communicate with him to his class Intranet using
Strategic's WebSurvey/400. With a Send
Instructor a Message form, students can identify
themselves and send a message from any PC in the computer
lab, which has full Internet access. Students wishing
to send an anonymous communication can do so via an
Anonymous
Student Feedback Form. A Student
Class Evaluation form allows students to provide
ongoing evaluation of Mr. Myers' courses without waiting
for the traditional end-of-semester formal evaluation.
"Before WebSurvey/400," states Mr. Myers, "I only had
half a Web site. WebSurvey brought my site to life with
no programming on my part whatsoever." |
